Qatar held an official ceremony Tuesday to inaugurate its biggest ports in the presence of the emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, three months after the start of the diplomatic crisis and trade sanctions imposed by Saudi Arabia and other countries.
Qatar says the port of Hamad, located in Mesaieed, about 30 km south of Doha, has contributed significantly to the attempts to impose an economic blockade since the beginning of the dispute on June 5.
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut ties with Qatar three months ago and imposed sanctions, accusing the Gulf emirate of drawing closer to Tehran and supporting terrorism.
