Qatar Airways will operate its first flight to Sulaymaniyah airport and a German airline will soon be heading to Sulaymaniyah International Airport.
Qatar Airways began operating flights to Sulaymaniyah International Airport on Thursday and decided to have weekly flights to Sulaymaniyah airport, according to the National Union.
On the other hand, Fly Germania Airlines decided to operate flights to Sulaymaniyah and Arbil airports as of April 5, 2018. The company has completed all preparations for this purpose.
Fly Germania is one of the largest airlines in Germany.
Baghdad imposed a ban on international flights to the airports of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah in September last, as part of the “punitive” against Kurdistan against the backdrop of the referendum on independence from Iraq.
Arbil has entered into tough negotiations with Baghdad over the past months in an attempt to restart international flights to the two airports, before Baghdad announced this month lifting the ban on the airports of Arbil and Sulaymaniyah.
