The Minister of Planning and Trade Salman Jumaili said during his meeting with his Saudi counterpart on Wednesday that the visit to Baghdad will be a new beginning of trade, economic and investment relations between the two countries.
“Minister Salman al-Jumaili received his Saudi counterpart Majid bin Abdullah al-Qasabi and his accompanying delegation in Baghdad to discuss issues of mutual concern,” the ministry said in a statement.
Al-Jumaili said that “Iraq and Saudi Arabia are seeking to pursue the strategic partnership in the economic, trade and investment fields to serve the common interests between the two countries.”
“This visit will mark the beginning of a new era of economic, trade and investment relations between the two countries and all fields of joint cooperation and achieve the aspirations of the governments of both countries and their peoples, which will contribute to the challenges facing the joint relations and contribute to the stability and security of the region,” he added.
For his part, Saudi Minister Majid bin Abdullah al-Qasabi said, “His country is keen to strengthen and develop relations between the two countries to achieve economic partnership and establish the Saudi-Iraqi economic council to reach a real economic and strategic vision between them.”
“The visit will be to identify the reality of the Iraqi economy and its areas and the need of the Iraqi market, as well as to find solutions to the problems and challenges through the convergence of views between the two countries and in order to achieve the common interests of both, where will be followed by subsequent visits and the establishment of a forum for Saudi and Iraqi businessmen.”
The relations with Saudi Arabia witnessed a great improvement, especially after the visit of Prime Minister Haider Abadi to the Kingdom, to open a new page of cooperation between the two sides.
