US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan met with Iraqi Deputy Foreign Minister Nizar Khairallah on Sunday in Baghdad while the fifth meeting of the Iraqi-US Higher Coordination Committee was held.
“The two sides stressed the great progress that has been made in bilateral relations since the signing of the strategic framework agreement in 2008,” a statement from the US embassy in Iraq said.
“The important relationship between the United States and Iraq is multidimensional and goes beyond security cooperation to include trade, education, cultural exchange, preservation of cultural heritage, law enforcement, environmental protection, energy and more.”
“The participants in the Higher Coordination Committee expressed their strong commitment to this partnership and the principles of cooperation, sovereignty and mutual respect,” the statement said.
