On Wednesday, April 11, 2018, the Saudi Foreign Ministry announced the opening of the Saudi consulate in Basra.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Public Diplomacy, Ambassador Osama bin Ahmed Naqli, according to Saudi media sources, followed by the Iraqi Economic Center, said that the opening of the consulate comes within the framework of the constructive relations between the Kingdom and the sisterly Republic of Iraq and cooperation and joint coordination to strengthen them in many fields.
He stressed that this step will support and expand the horizons of cooperation to serve the interests of both countries and peoples.
The Saudi ambassador to Iraq Abdul Aziz al-Shammari had announced on the tenth of last month the approval of the Iraqi government to open a consulate for his country in the province of Basra to be the second general consulate after Erbil.
