The Ministry of Planning announced on Monday that the inflation rate for August rose by 0.5% and annual inflation by 0.2%, noting that the survey did not include the provinces of Anbar and Nineveh because of the security situation in them.
The official spokesman of the Ministry of Planning Abdul-Zahra al-Hindawi said in a statement that “the Central Bureau of Statistics of the Ministry of Planning completed the inflation report for the month of August 2017 on the basis of collecting data on the field of prices of goods and services constituents of the consumer basket of selected sample outlets in all provinces of Iraq” , Indicating that “these rates are calculated from goods and services, which include food, rent, transport, telecommunications, health, education and other consumer goods.”
He added that “inflation indicators for the month of August rose by 0.5% compared to the previous month, in addition to the rise in annual inflation by 0.2% compared to the month of July 2016.”
“The rise in inflation was due to the 1.3 percent increase in the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, the rise in the prices of clothing and footwear, housing and transport by 0.1 percent, the entertainment and culture section by 3.1 percent and the goods and services section by 0.3 percent,” he said.
The Hindawi said that “the survey conducted during the month of August did not include the provinces of Anbar and Nineveh because of the security situation in these provinces.”
The Center for Statistics and Information Technology announced in January 2012 that it has started to use mechanization to collect different prices and at specific times in place of the paper form in the past, stressing that this will contribute to the speed of collection and accuracy of prices and correct their calculation in case of errors.
