A Kurdish official said on Monday the closure of the authorities in Tehran crossing “Bashmakh” border with the Kurdistan Region in a timely manner following the ongoing military exercises between the armed forces of Iran and Iraq.
The official, who asked not to be named, said that Iranian officials had informed the border crossing administration today that they had stopped the transit of pick-up trucks because of military maneuvers.
The source added that the crossing is a natural problem for passengers, cars and trucks, adding that the Iranian authorities will reopen the crossing completely after the end of the exercises.
The Iranian Tasnim Agency has said that joint Iranian-Iraqi military exercises began on Monday on the borders of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The Iraqi army has conducted joint exercises with the Turkish army on the borders of the Kurdistan Region in a review of the strength against the background of the referendum on independence of Kurdistan, which rejects Baghdad and neighboring countries.
