Iraq and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday signed an agreement and two economic memorandums to develop trade and investment ties between the two countries.
“The joint Iraqi-UAE committee held its ninth meeting in Abu Dhabi under the chairmanship of Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Anwar Gargash. The meeting was followed by the signing of a double taxation avoidance agreement and a memorandum of understanding Between the Iraqi-UAE Chamber of Commerce and a memorandum of cooperation in the field of investment. ”
Al-Jaafari said, “We seek to strengthen economic, trade and investment relations because they have a significant impact on the interests of the two brotherly peoples on a strong and well-established basis.” Iraq is an emerging country because it is rich in multiple resources, Terrorism, the economic challenge, low oil prices and the cost of the war against terrorism. ”
He explained that “Iraq will not forget the friendly countries that stood by his side during the ordeal, and looks forward to a greater role in the reconstruction of infrastructure of Iraqi cities that have been destroyed.”
For his part, Anwar Gargash, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, said, “We emphasize the importance of activating the Joint Commission and we want to enhance joint cooperation with Iraq in various fields.” In agriculture, tourism, trade, and the banking, cultural and intellectual sectors. ”
“We have to overcome the obstacles facing the development of joint action, and we have companies, businessmen with a desire to work, and support the economic sector with the availability of investment opportunities in Iraq.”
