Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari on Thursday discussed the efforts made by international organizations to provide the necessary supplies for displaced families during his meeting with the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs in New York.
“Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Marc Lokuk on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly’s 72nd session in New York,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“The meeting reviewed the humanitarian situation of the Iraqi people as a result of the war against terrorism and efforts exerted by international organizations to provide the necessary supplies for displaced families,” the statement said.
“Iraqi forces have made more sacrifices and more blood for the lives of civilians who were under the control of terrorism,” Jaafari said. “They have given a great lesson in the history of wars.”
Jaafari called on the world to “review the victories and achievements in the war against terrorism, and benefit from plans that contributed to the preservation of the blood of civilians, and reduced the scale of losses.”
Al-Jaafari praised the role of the United Nations and its mission in Baghdad in helping the Iraqi people in various fields, stressing that “Iraq looks forward to further efforts and assistance to displaced families and the reconstruction of Iraqi cities.”
For his part, said the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for humanitarian affairs, “the whole world to see the sacrifices and heroines of the Iraqi people and the efforts made in the war against terrorism, stressing that” the United Nations is serious in making utmost efforts to provide all humanitarian and service support to Iraq, That its mission in Iraq is working hard to support Iraq in various fields. ”
The role of the Iraqi government in “preserving the lives of civilians in the war against terrorism and coordinating with humanitarian organizations to provide services to citizens,” he said. “We have been directly aware of the great role played by members of the Iraqi armed forces who have made great sacrifices in order to rescue displaced families From the grip of terrorism, and provide them with humanitarian assistance. ”
